With the 2011 edition of the Computex trade show just waiting to see its gates officially open, items on display are already making the news, one of them being an x86 tablet from ViewSonic.

Computex is one of the electronic shows that happens every year, being a time when many IT players gather together in Taipei, Taiwan.

There, they show off their latest and greatest projects, much like they do during the January CES (Consumer Electronics Show).

In this instance, one can be sure to find many PCs, PC components, tablets and other gadgets that were or were not previewed until now.

One of the newcomers is a certain tablet PC developed by ViewSonic and powered by the newest Intel Atom central processing unit.

More specifically, the ViewPad 10Pro, as it is called, uses the Intel Atom Z670 chip, which is the first Oak Trail unit that the Santa Clara, California-based chip giant delivered.

For those that want a reminder, the Z670 is a dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and a lower power draw than all its predecessors, hence its usability in slates.

The feature most praised in the official press release of the company is the dual-OS, meaning that both Windows 7 Professional and Android are present.

The switch between the two software solutions can be done instantly and without having to turn the ViewPad 10Pro off at all.

A capacitive touchscreen handles input, while WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G allow one to connect wirelessly to the Internet or other devices.

What remains is to see if any other IT players see it fit to show off an Oak Trail tablet of this kind. Either way, if more of them emerge, a showdown will ensue not just between each other, but also between them as a group and the many 10-inch ARM slates available or on their way.
