The new CPUs from AMD and Intel are running rampant, NVIDIA is finally competing with ATI on the DirectX 11 front and motherboard makers have already started experimenting with next-generation chipsets. All in all, it can be said that the major product launches of this first half of the year have come and gone. This means that hardware makers can go back to steadily improving their existing product lines, based on consumer interest and current trends.

Internet, for one, has started to become accessible through more than just PCs, which translates into the fact that new possibilities have arisen for creators of set top boxes, media players and other electronics.

ViewSonic seems to be especially mindful of the possibilities provided by certain Internet-based services, such as Flickr, Netflix and YouTube. As such, it has brought forth the NexTV VMP75, a media player that is more than meets the eye.

As all media players, this new device is set to play video and audio files, as well as handle picture slide shows. Sure enough, the product can even cope with 1080p Full HD videos, even those on external storage devices. What's more noteworthy is that ViewSonic's creation can also stream from home networks or the aforementioned Internet-based services.

“Imagine the internet's endless library of information and entertainment in the palm of your hand and displayed on your HDTV in the comfort of your living room,” said Josephine Chiu, senior product marketing manager, ViewSonic “The NexTV VMP75 brings all of your favorite entertainment choices directly into the heart of your home or office with easy and convenient play back or streaming to any HDTV. We’re delighted to be opening up the possibilities of digital entertainment to enjoy or share in full HD quality.”

The NexTV VMP75 supports many image and video files, such as XviD, H.264/AVC, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, DivX 3/4/5/6, VORBIS, OGG, FLAC WAV, WMA and MP3, among others. As for connectivity, an Etehrnet port is present, as are 802.11b/g/n WiFi, eSATA, USB, HDMI, AV, DLNA and UPnP. Pre-orders can be set for $149.99.
