During the recently ended IFA 2010 show in Berlin, ViewSonic unveiled a certain device, the MB-P702 to be exact, which is not exactly a tablet and focuses on just one set of capabilities, the greatest of those being Full HD video playback.

Doubtless, the highlight of ViewSonic's exhibition were the dual-boot 10-inch tablet and the 7-inch ViewPad with phone functionality.

Nevertheless, those two were far from being the only items on display, the company also showing off the MB-P702.

This MB-P702 is, in a manner of speaking, a sort of cross-breed between an e-reader and a PMP, though it focuses on a very specific set of task instead of going for a wide feature set.

What this means is that, according to imp3, the electronic can act as an e-reader and a media player of sorts, but it lacks web browsing and Google Maps, even being deprived of the Android OS.

In terms of hardware, the electronic is built with a 7-inch display whose resolution is of 800 x 480 pixels, not the highest in the world but likely suitable for enjoying the 256 preloaded games.

Also, as far as multimedia goes, the gadget can perform video playback in up to 1,080 pixel resolutions, the HDMI input being the means by which such media can be streamed to auxiliary displays.

The supported video file formats are RM, RMVB, WMV, MKV, VOB and AVI, among others, while sound files can be encoded in WMA, MP3, FLAC and APE.

What's more, in terms of e-book reading, ViewSonic threw in support for a host of e-book files, like EPUB, TXT, HTML, PDB, PDF and UMD.

Not only that, but the e-reader/PMP can perform handwriting annotation of PDF files.

Unfortunately, the report did not have any information on the price of the product, although it will probably cost much less than the ViewPad 7 (under £350).
