Since the Christmas shopping spree is almost here, consumer electronics manufacturers from all around the world are scrambling to come up with certain products that will still manage to draw the customers' attention, despite their desire to spend less on gifts this year. And that's also the case with ViewSonic, which has just introduced the DPG801BK and DPG807BK models, a couple of 8-inch digital photo frames that combine certain advanced features with a very affordable price point.

Probably the most interesting feature provided by the two frames is the SwifTouch touch-screen technology, which helps keep the display clutter- and smudge-free by enabling hidden control buttons that illuminate to show the menu selections only when needed. Additionally, the 8-inch displays both models are equipped with provide an 800x600 pixel resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio and 500:1 typical contrast ratio.

Uploading photos to the 512MB of internal flash memory is also an easy task, since it can be done via either the memory card slot or a USB port (sadly, no Bluetooth or WiFi). Besides "simply" viewing photos, users can also display photos individually, zoom in up to 16 times to view intricate details of the photos, browse thumbnails or create an image slideshow with transition effects and audio.

The two devices are compatible with a wide range of formats, including JPEG and BMP, as well as MP3 for music and multimedia – the DPG801BK can display Motion JPEG, while the DPG807BK can display MPEG1, MPEG4 and Motion JPEG for video.

We've told you at the beginning of this article that the two digital frames are relatively affordable, and now it's time to elaborate on this particular issue. Hence, both products sell for around 130 US dollars, which is a low-enough price point, although a pretty logical one as well, given the fact that, after all, we're talking about some pretty entry-level products here.
