Not to many things happen it the monitor world these days, every product launched looking quite similar to the one being announced before it, but ViewSonic is decided to make a statement with its VX2258wm model that comes with Windows 7 certified multi-touch capabilities.

Although this is actually ViewSonic's first touch screen monitor, I am happy to report the company didn't skimp on features, this 22 inch display coming in with a Full HD 1080p resolution and Infrared Optical Imaging technology in order to drive its multi-touch input capabilities (styluses are also supported).

The High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HBCP) copy protection system is also supported so users can watch Blu-Ray content or use this for their high definition gaming console, the ViewSonic VX2258wm offering a pretty good 5ms response time so games should run pretty smoothly.

In order for the touchscreen to work, users must connect the monitor via a USB port, Windows 7 automatically enabling multi-touch input, the VX2258wm also coming with two built-in SRS two watt speakers.

Connectivity wise, the VX2258vm features DVI and VGA inputs as well as 3.5mm audio in/out connectors, HDMI sadly missing from the package.

“As content becomes increasingly more rich and interactive, users want to be able to take full advantage of it.

People are starting to expect the same levels of interactivity on their desktop systems as they get with their smartphones,” says James Coulson, European marketing manager, ViewSonic.

"The ViewSonic VX2258wm makes it easy to bring the full touch screen experience to the Windows 7 desktop."

The monitor is now available in Europe for £189 as well as in the US for $319.99, so this does actually carries an important price premium compared to regular 22 inch monitors, but, then again, no one said that multi-touch displays comes cheaply.
