ViewSonic may have unveiled a significant number of displays over the past months, but, while those were mostly meant to incite mainstream users with a good balance between price and performance, they didn't boast the highest level of efficiency. Now, the company has decided to rectify this, by bringing out an LED-backlit LCD that places energy efficiency ahead of price accessibility while not impacting on image quality.

The new monitor is known as ViewSonic VX2250wm-LED. As its name obviously implies, it uses LED backlights, which consume about 40% less power than CCFL backlights. To be exact, the maximum power consumption is of 26W. Of course, energy efficiency alone is not enough to justify a purchase, which is why the display maker did not hold back from implementing Full-HD video quality support, among other things.

For those interested in figures and specifications, the glossy, black LCD has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 (1,000:1 contrast ratio), a brightness of 250 cd/m2 and a response time of 5ms. Furthermore, the display has its own built-in, 2W stereo speakers and can receive video input via DVI and D-Sub inputs. Basically, the monitor is designed as “Ideal for those looking to lower their energy usage without lowering quality.”

“From armchair environmentalists to Mac users all over the US, many of our customers are concerned with reducing energy costs, without compromising on their entertainment experience,” Sean Gunduz, senior product manager, said. “The ViewSonic VX2250wm-LED allows users to make a significant energy saving while providing unrivaled picture quality and a rich feature set, and we are proud to be leading the way in the green LED movement.”

Already available for pre-order, the ViewSonic VX2250wm-LED carries a price tag of $190. Shipments should start being carried out on May 26.
