The powerful Vienna RSS reader for Macs has received a new (beta) update today adding a new icon, new themes and filters, better translations, a Safari plugin, and lots of bug fixes.

With Google Reader out the door soon, you might want to prioritize a new RSS reading experience with Vienna, one of the best applications of its kind on the Mac. It's also completely free!

In addition to its ability to sync Google Reader, Vienna 3.0.0 beta 10 boasts numerous filters, including two new ones: “Last 48 hours” and “Unread or flagged.” It also comes with a new option to treat updated articles as new, and has better translations for Danish and German users.

A new icon complements the app’s revised UI, along with a bunch of new themes, courtesy of Nick Dazé and Carles Bellver. Also noteworthy, Vienna 3.0 brings a new plugin which enables you to add content to Safari’s reading list with a click.

Note that, since Vienna 3.0 is still in beta, you might encounter a few bugs here and there. The software seems polished enough to be considered stable, but the developers are yet to roll out the official “Final” version of the software.
