One day after Videotron introduced the HTC Amaze 4G to its portfolio of Android smartphones, the carrier announces the availability of the BlackBerry Torch 9810.

The successor of the popular Torch 9800 is now available for purchase at a reduced price of $149.95 (110 EUR), or $599.95 (445 EUR) outright.

The reason the phone’s retail price is so high in comparison with other carriers’ deals is probably the fact that Videotron is trying to expand its customer data base.

All in all, the BlackBerry Torch 9810 is an interesting smartphone, one of the latest launched by Research In Motion this year. The phone runs RIM’s BlackBerry 7 operating system and features innovative Liquid Graphics technology on the 3.2-inch touchscreen display.

According to Videotron, BlackBerry Torch 9810 “will blow you away! With a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard, it gives you the best of both worlds. And because it features the latest-generation BlackBerry 7 operating system, it has an incredible amount of power.”

BlackBerry Torch 9810 retained the traditional QWERTY keyboard, but now offers users a vivid and crisp 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 640 pixels resolution.

It offers 8GB onboard memory, but that may not be enough for some. Fear not as the Torch 9810 packs a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

One of the most powerful smartphones launched by RIM, along with the Bold 9900 and Torch 9860, the Torch 9810 is equipped with a 1.2 GHz single core processor and embeds 768 MB of RAM.

On the back, there’s a 5-megapixel photo snapper, which features autofocus, LED flash, face detection, image stabilization, as well as HD (720p) video recording capabilities. Sadly, the handset does not come with a secondary front facing camera.

The phone is powered by an 1270 mAh Li-Ion battery rated by the manufacturer for up to 300 hours of standby time or up to 6 hours of talk time.
