Directed by Darren Aronofsky, new clip isn't really that outstanding

“Lulu” is an album by Lou Reed and Metallica, one that unfortunately wasn't received that warmly by critics. The first single off it is called “The View” and has just gotten a brand new video directed by none other than Darren Aronofsky.

One would expect something coming from the hands of the Oscar-winning director to be positively groundbreaking. Remember his anti-meth PSAs?

While the video for “The View” might not be that original in terms of concept (it's about Lou and the Metallica guys singing in the recording studio, and is shot entirely in black and white), it's superb from a purely aesthetic point of view.

Noteworthy is the fact that Reed's face is not visible until the end of the clip and even there it's not seen properly. Until that point, all closeups on Reed are so painfully blurry they almost make you dizzy.

Overall, the video might not bring a novel idea into being, but it's nice to look at – that is, if you don't mind seeing blurry, unrelated shots in rapid succession.
