Users only need to install and run the Framaroot app on the device

One of the devices that received a lot of attention at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month was Nokia X, the first handset from the company to have landed on shelves with Google’s Android operating system loaded on top.

In fact, Nokia unveiled three handsets in the new Android-based family of smartphones, namely the Nokia X, X+, and XL, all of which come to shelves with a forked version of Google’s platform, and which lack services that the Mountain View-based Internet giant usually loads on Android phones.

While Nokia’s own products are available on Nokia X smartphones, some users might actually want to have Google apps on them, something that is easily achievable, as long as the phones are rooted.

Furthermore, gaining root access on these handsets is said to be very easy, and the video embedded above (via MyNokiaBlog), along with the three-step guide below, should prove just that.

As XDA-Developers Forum member Xlordvk notes in a post, all that users will need to do in the beginning is to download the Framaroot.apk. Then, simply navigate to the folder where it has been downloaded, click on it to install, and open it.

As soon as the app is up and running on the Nokia X, simply click on Grandalf and reboot the device. When coming back online, the phone is rooted and you can start installing software that wouldn’t be otherwise available for it.
