Apple's CarPlay makes a surprise appearance in a video highlighting the new Hyundai Sonata

Apple announced its lineup for 2014 cars and Hyundai was one of the big five brands. We've seen other videos or photos before, so now it's time to check out the 2015 Sonata.

The video posted by MotoMan TV goes from the factory line to the road and shows the new Hyundai car. It is not a full demo of CarPlay but it is as real as we can get from a car fan perspective.

The Apple CarPlay part starts around the 3.55 mark and comes in and out for the remaining eight minutes of the footage. The guest in the TV show starts off by plugging an iPhone in the car system using a lightning cable. On this car, the Apple CarPlay does not take over the whole audio system and onboard navigation, but it integrates and it runs in the same time.

However, there's a caveat to the whole CarPlay thing. "You are dependent on a cell connection with the phone to use navigation or Apple Maps, so if you are in a remote location like we are today, like rural Alabama where you have no cell service you would be relying on your onboard navigation system," explains the TV show's host.

Whenever that happens, you can only have regular radio playing and manual controls over iPhone's apps, but there are no online features and you cannot ask Siri questions or have it read messages or perform tasks or online searches for you.

When the cellular connection comes back, you can resume regular functionality. One other detail: when you get a text message, you do not see it on the dashboard screen. Instead, you can have Siri read it out loud.

Another CarPlay appearance comes today from Volvo. A video posted online shows a rather short Ad that highlights CarPlay.

Apple prides itself in promoting CarPlay as a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone in the car. "You can get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, and listen to music, all in a way that allows you to stay focused on the road."

CarPlay will be controlled via Siri, but it works with buttons or a dashboard touchscreen if the car has one. You will have Apple Maps integrated in the car along with Phone, Messages, Music or Podcasts apps.

CarPlay will only work with iPhone 5 or newer models.
