New Mac mini finally more credible

Apple is rumored to be revamping the Mac mini, boasting specs such as 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3MB L2 cache, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, and 'Super Drive is SATA.' When posted, the rumor was accompanied by a fuzzy picture of what looked like an updated Mac mini. The same person leaking that picture has now produced a short video of the device, showing it from all angles.

“You asked for a picture, I gave you a picture,” said monthy, the source of the rumor. “You still call it a fake. What else do you what? [sic] Tell me and if it is a little bit possible I will try to get it,” he wrote, sounding almost as if he were desperate for some credibility. Monthy eventually decided to shoot a video of the device, capturing it from all sides. “OK, I will upload [a] short movie online and we will see,” he said. Minutes later, the user linked to the video in question (available at the bottom of the article).

Softpedia take: MacRumors forum user “monthy” has somehow gotten his hands on a revamped Mac mini unit, shooting pictures and videos of it to ultimately post the proof online, yet he believes “[he] didnt [sic] do anything illegal.” His argument? “I didnt [sic] sign any NDA or anything like that, lets say I met a guy in a subway who offered me something and I bought it...” Nevertheless, the skepticism disappeared along with the availability of the video proof.

Viewers might notice that the device does appear to show at least one additional (unmentioned) change compared to the currently available mini Mac – a more shiny metal casing that appears to go around and on top the mini's “lid.” The edges of the metal casing also seem a bit more rounded. There's no way that's the same matte metal design Apple uses on its current Mac minis.

While still under debate, the rumor has the new Mac mini equipped with a total of five USB ports, FireWire 800 and Ethernet ports, audio-in and -out ports, two display connectors - a Mini DisplayPort and a Mini DVI port, and the ever-present Audio Line-in and Line-out ports.
