Amidst talk of the inappropriateness of his performance at the 2009 American Music Awards, Adam Lambert has quietly released the video for his first single off the debut album, the title song “For Your Entertainment.” With a very goth / punk / 80s vibe to it, the video is the product of a one-day shoot with Ray Kay at the helm, which shows Lambert as the ringmaster of an underground party.

Adam Lambert has repeatedly been described as this generation’s glam rock idol and, for many, his performance over the weekend only comes to reinforce that. With this in mind, the same does this recently released video, as it shows the singer as a true entertainer, of which we have only a handful these days on the music scene. As music critics also point out, the entire video – the party – takes place underground, quite a powerful symbol for the musical revolution the American Idol runner-up has in store for the world.

Speaking of symbols, they certainly do abound in the video, from Adam sitting on a throne-like chair petting a snake to a close-up of him biting on an apple, and shots of the singer dancing with both male and female dancers. It’s no longer a secret that Lambert manages to appeal to the same extent to all music lovers, regardless of whether they’re men or women, as neither is a secret that he deliberately aims to shatter previously held beliefs of what a pop star should be.

On this note, suffice it to say that he makes it very clear in the new video, even if most US media outlets are refraining right now from speaking their mind on it, presumably because of said AMAs controversy. “The music video for Adam Lambert’s ‘For Your Entertainment’ single has now been released on his official website. The video was filmed on Sunday, November 15 at The Alexandria, the old hotel which is now an apartment building in down town Los Angeles. The video is Goth-like with a club/80s/punk-rocker theme. Lambert is dancing and performing with his band in the video. Ray Kay is the director of the video. Kay, directed Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’ video,” is all Examiner says of it, for instance.

Hopefully, fans believe, reviewers will warm up to Adam in the following days. Meanwhile, below is the official, full-length video for Adam Lambert’s first single, “For Your Entertainment,” lifted off the album with the same title. Enjoy.
