As we all know, the Oscars are the big talk of the entertainment industry today, and the only reason for which I gave it a couple of extra hours before starting to post about the big night as well was that I decided to wait for the most significant highlights of last night's award ceremony to be available online. So, be warned: this is a mega post containing acceptance speeches for best actor and actress, best actors and actress in a supporting role, best movie -plus a little extra Oscar glamor on the side, for the movie lovers everywhere.
I don't know if it was because the writers working on the show were happy to come back to work or there was some other reason involved, but I must hand it to them - they did a great job. Last night's event was one of the best Oscar ceremonies we've seen in a long time, with little to no red carpet fashion faux pas, a great opening monologue
courtesy of Jon Stewart and some rather unexpected (but still spectacular) wins.
You can find the complete list of winners below. As far as I'm concerned, the truly remarkable - and surprising - part of the show was that the four main acting awards were taken home by non-American artists: Britain's Daniel Day-Lewis Best Actor and Tilda Swinton Best Supporting Actress, France's Marion Cotillard Best Actress and Spain's Javier Bardem, Best Supporting Actor. How's that for globalization? In the end, it was a great night, and I think that it's best if I let the clips embedded below do the talking.
