She's a too “obvious” kind of girl to be an Angel, says casting director

She's the “it” girl of the moment: Kate Upton, the delicious blonde now gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated, may be all sorts of pretty, but she's definitely not Angel material for Victoria's Secret.

Fans might disagree with that, but the casting director for Victoria's Secret annual show Sophia Neophitou believes that she would not in a million years get Angel wings.

Becoming an Angel for VS is one of the most coveted jobs in the world for any model, because it's a very lucrative deal and, at the same time, an excellent launching pad – even towards high fashion modeling.

As Neophitou puts it in a recent interview cited by Us Weekly, there's something very “obvious” and somehow fake about Kate's beauty.

“We would never use Ms. Upton for a Victoria's Secret show,” Neophitou says, adding that the choice would be “too obvious.”

Not even the fact that Kate has modeled lingerie before counts for anything.

“She's like a Page 3 girl,” Neophitou states, referring to the (in)famous glamor girls promoted by the British tabloid The Sun on its third page.

“She's like a footballer's wife, with the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy,” the VS casting director says.

As one can easily imagine, given the frenzy that Upton's Swimsuit Illustrated spread caused the other day, fans and celebrity bloggers quickly reacted to these comments, with the majority saying that she could actually be a perfect Angel.

She has the body and she has the face for it, they say, so VS should probably think outside the box with this one, especially since she's proving to be so popular these days.

Kate herself hasn't said a peep yet about Neophitou's comments – she's probably too happy enjoying the new-found fame with the SI spread.
