Victoria Beckham made her debut in the fashion world as an aspiring designer a while back, after countless months spent putting out feelers and thinking about the alternatives made available to her. When she did launch her first collection, critics were reserved, but they gradually warmed up to Posh as a designer with the following lines, which they praised for being original and truly inspired from Mrs. Beckham’s unmistakable look.

Except for one particular gown, of which critics said it was her best to date and that seems a complete rip-off from a creation of London-based designer Osman Yousefzada, says the Daily Mail. Aside from the resemblance which is quite uncanny, the fact that Yousefzada first introduced the design and, what’s more, that Victoria even wore it before she came out with hers, is not really helping her case, it is being said.

Mr. Yousefzada, though, is not upset about the striking similarity in the designs, hinting that he’s not even considering suing Mrs. Beckham. That she would come out with her own column dress based on a design she saw and liked in one of his collections is rather flattering than upsetting, the British designer says for the Daily Mail. Nevertheless, this report, even if proven to be not entirely accurate, will probably leave a dent in Victoria’s reputation as a fashion designer.

“A lot of people have mentioned the similarity to me and of course it is very flattering. It is very flattering to think she may have tried my dress and been inspired to create something similar, since it means she must have liked the way the dress was cut and the way it felt to wear. I like to dress powerful, confident women so it’s great to think the dress might have inspired her,” Yousefzda says.

“I created the dress by wrapping my bathroom towel at first to get the shape, and then by doing the same thing with material and securing it with an internal corset, so the fabric is allowed to move effortlessly,” the London-based designer adds, when speaking about how he came up with the fabulous yet extremely simple design.
