A man was injured while chasing Bigfoot in Oklahoma. Three people have been arrested after a hunting trip for a mythical, probably imaginary creature in Rogers County ended in one of them getting shot.

Omar Pineda, his father in law and wife have been charged for obstruction of justice after a fourth man in their hunting group was shot.

Pineda accidentally discharged his weapon and fired at the victim, injuring him in the back. They were in a wooded area in Catoosa, Oklahoma and police in Rogers and Tulsa County responded to the call.

According to Odd News, Pineda got startled and fired when he heard a barking noise. However, he made up a different story during his interrogation. He has also been charged for reckless conduct with a firearm.

His father-in-law, 53-year-old Perry Don James, is a convicted felon who cannot have firearms on him, so he threw the weapon in a lake.

“If (they) had just been factual, upfront and truthful with us and explained that this was truly an accident, as strange as it might sound, we would have went ahead and investigated and probably nobody would have (gone) to jail,” Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton says.

James has been accused of destroying evidence. His daughter, 22-year-old Lacey Jane Pineda, will be going to jail for lying about another shooter aiming at the victim and her husband.

“When you start off with an explanation like that, do you believe anything after that?

“The aggravating part of this whole deal is that their dishonesty wasted several man hours of not only the Rogers County Sheriff's Office, but our partners at the Tulsa County Sheriff's,” Sheriff Walton adds.

The fact that the group had taken the trip to hunt down Bigfoot did not help when they described the facts to local authorities.

“To our knowledge, (there have been) no Bigfoot sightings in Rogers County. I think our focus is career criminals and thugs, and we're going to stay focused on that and let somebody else go after Bigfoot,” Sheriff Walton explains.
