Viber has just announced that it has pushed a major update for its Android application that will allow users to make cheaper calls to any phone number anywhere in the world.

With Viber 4.1 for Android, users will be able to take advantage of a new feature called “Viber Out,” which had been previously enabled for users in the Philippines soon after the Typhoon Haiyan, in order to help users contact friends and loved ones.

The good news is that Viber has decided to roll out the new feature globally, so that Android users all over the world could make low-cost calls to any mobile or landline phone number.

“Viber Out gives our millions of users a new way to use Viber and ensures that they can reach any contact at any time. We will continue to improve Viber Out, keeping our users connected at the most affordable rates possible,” said Talmon Marco, CEO of Viber.

Keep in mind that the new feature is only available for Android, iPhone and Desktop versions of Viber, but the company has promised that it will offer the same deal to Windows Phone users in the not so distant future.

In order to take advantage of the new Viber Out feature, Android users must purchase credit within the application available on Google Play Store or App Store. Those who are using Viber Desktop will have to have a credit card to purchase credit to make calls with the application.

Aside from the new Viber Out feature, the latest update introduces a few more changes that we have listed below:

- Download many new free and paid stickers from the Sticker Market; - New contact filter allows you to sort your contacts; - Improvements and bug fixes.

You can now download Viber for Android 4.1 for free via Softpedia. Keep in mind that the application should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.2 and up.
