The Android version of Viber, the popular VoIP application has just been launched and is now available as a free download, after two months of beta testing.

Initially launched on the iPhone, Viber had an amazing success that made the developer port the application on the Android platform and keep the same user-friendly setup process and high-quality calls.

The mobile application allows users to make free phone calls and text messages to other Viber users over 3G and Wi-Fi.

Viber, the company behind the highly-acclaimed application, has also announced that it has acquired over 12 million active users in the last 30 days and has an impressive call traffic volume of over one billion minutes of calls per quarter.

This is an incredibly exciting day for us. We have been looking forward to launching our Android app, especially after having received a staggering number of requests from Android users asking us to bring Viber to the Android market,” said Talmon Marco, Viber CEO.

According to Viber, the company now has over 20 million registered users and 12 million active users who currently talk on Viber for 11 million minutes every day, with an average of 6 minutes per call.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank more than 50,000 users who have been testing the beta version of Viber for Android since May. The beta test allowed us to refine the app and prepare it for widespread release,” added Marco.

The features that made the iPhone version of Viber so popular are also available within the Android iteration, including full call screen whenever a Viber call is received, popup text message notification, as well as tighter integration with the phone.

Viber for Android is now available as a free download from Android Market and is compatible with all devices running Android 2.0 or newer.
