14 DAY TRIAL // Cablevision and Viacom have reached an agreement in relation to Cablevision's TV streaming application for iOS, Optimum.
Released earlier this year, the Optimum app was initially available to iPad users only.
As Cablevision subscribers, tablet owners could watch streaming live TV anywhere in their home, as well as reap the benefits of a DVR feature, TV guides and several on-demand services.
Not long after the software had been approved in the Apple App Store, Viacom sued Cablevision over streaming their programming without the former’s approval.
However, an official statement from the two companies issued this week clarifies that all is well between them, and that users can continue to use the Optimum application without any modifications to its set of features:
In connection with the agreement, the companies jointly issued the following statement:
"Viacom and Cablevision have agreed to resolve their pending litigation, and the Viacom programming will continue to appear on Cablevision's Optimum Apps for iPad and other IP devices. In reaching the settlement agreement, Cablevision and Viacom were able to resolve the iPad matter and an unrelated business matter to their mutual satisfaction. Neither side is conceding its original legal position or will have further comment."
As Softpedia readers may recall, Cablevision has recently issued a software update to their Optimum app to include the iPhone and and the iPod touch as supported devices, aiming to deliver “the full cable television experience” on any kind of screen, big and small.
Version 2.0 of the Cablevision Optimum application now allows users to access more than 300 channels of live TV and several thousand video titles on demand.
Besides the powerful DVR management, interactive guide information and search features available through Optimum, users can now employ the app to control their television set wirelessly.
Optimum is free to all iOS customers so long as they have firmware version 4.0 installed.
