Tutti, a 4-month-old pup living with her owners in the city of Durham in North Carolina, US, is now a happy pooch that simply loves and adores running around and playing with its toys. Just by looking at her, it's impossible to tell that, not long ago, she came pretty darn close to dying.

Thus, on New Year's Eve, the pooch, featured in the photo below, somehow managed to impale herself on a knitting needle that worked its way through her chest and into her heart. Luckily, vets managed to successfully remove the needle and save her life.

How the needle got stuck in Tutti's heart

As mentioned, the 4-month-old pooch ended up with the knitting needle stuck inside her heart and chest this past New Year's Eve. Her owners, Chris Shaw and Bradley Justice, believe that she impaled herself when she tried to jump on a coffee table and fell.

Chris Shaw and Bradley Justice say that, at the time they rushed Tutti to the Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital, the needle was visible sticking out of her chest. When they finally arrived at the clinic, vets X-rayed the pooch to determine just how bad her injuries were.

They found that, rather than simply piercing her skin, the knitting needle was deeply embedded in Tutti's heart. Looking to save the 4-month-old puppy's life, doctors at the Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital decided to sedate her and cut her open.

The pooch made a rapid, swift recovery

In an interview with the press, 31-year-old veterinary cardiologist Jennifer Myers explained that the surgical intervention went smoothly and that, not long after waking up, the pooch was well enough to return home with her family. In fact, word has it that Tutti was quite eager to leave the clinic.

“The first few minutes were the most critical. Once she woke up from anesthesia, she was a very sweet little dog. Really, she woke up and was looking around. She wanted to be held and cuddled,” veterinary cardiologist Jennifer Myers said in a statement, as cited by DM.
