On Tuesday, staff at SeaWorld Orlando announced that a female whitetip reef shark living at this facility had successfully delivered four pups.

What's interesting is the fact that, because the female was having trouble delivering its offspring, veterinarians had to step in and perform a cesarean section.

According to Orlando Sentinel, this was the first time that a shark had been subjected to such a procedure.

The same source informs us that the c-section was performed on July 18.

Both the mother shark and its bundles of joy are in good health. Their caretakers say that they have quite an appetite, and that they are behaving normally.

Presently, vets are busy keeping a close eye on the shark family. The animals are not yet on display, and it will be some time before visitors to SeaWorld Orlando get the chance to see them.
