The city of Milan, Italy is about to get a whole lot greener than it used to be. Long story short, it appears that, by the end of 2013, the center of this urban area will house a forest comprising 730 trees, 5,000 shrubs and 11,000 other plants.

Singularity Hub tells us that, unlike run-off-the-mill forests, this one will be a vertical one, hence the fact that it's been dubbed Bosco Verticale.

Thus, the forest will be made up of two residential apartment buildings on whose many terraces workers will plant patches of greenery.

The trees, shrubs and other plants growing on these terraces will get their water chiefly from baths, sinks, washing machines and dishwashers used by the people living in the buildings.

Needless to say, the water will be purified and treated before being used to irrigate the forest.

Spokespersons for Stefano Boeri Architetti, the Italian architecture firm that came up with the idea of this urban forest, say that, all in all, the costs of this project will amount to €65 million ($89.7 million).
