To all DROID devices out there

With Nexus One being the only mobile phone on the market to have received the Android 2.2 software update from Google, it was only a matter of time until the first reports on various handset vendors and wireless carriers around the world getting ready for Froyo started to emerge. And it seems that United States operator Verizon Wireless made it to the headlines with rumored plans to start deploying the new Android OS flavor as soon as August 6 is here.

Previous reports also suggested that Big Red would be among the first wireless services providers to make a move in this area, and that the highly popular DROID by Motorola would be the second handset in the world to taste Android 2.2 Froyo. However, it seems that the carrier would actually plan rolling-out Android 2.2 to most of its DROID users in August, which means that DROID Incredible and DROID X owners (hopefully, DROID Eris users too), should receive the solution starting with roughly ten days from now.

According to a recent post on AndroidSpin, the Android 2.2 deployment at Verizon Wireless is set to kick off on August 6 and to end by August 15. Moreover, it seems the Big Red will have its hands full of Froyo, as all aforementioned devices, including Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, and Motorola Droid X, should receive the update simultaneously.

Of course, nothing has been confirmed officially as of yet, and chances are that all would prove to be a false alarm in the end. On the other hand, with various rumors suggesting that the wireless carrier would have the DROID 2 by Motorola launched on its airwaves in the following few weeks with Android 2.2 on board right from the start, the probability that it would deliver the solution to other devices is high enough. With August almost upon us, it shouldn't be too long before an official announcement is made.
