Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is reportedly gearing up for the launch of a new Android-based device in its DROID lineup, one that would also come with support for the carrier's 4G LTE network, and which would be manufactured by Samsung, namely the DROID Charge.

The handset was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January and has been spotted into the wild before as DROID Charge, though no official confirmation that it would actually be released under this name emerged for the time being.

However, following a series of rumors regarding it possibly landing in the DROID family, photos with it sporting the popular DROID 'red eye' emerged, suggesting that Verizon would indeed plan to add it to the popular series.

Up until now, the wireless carrier has marketed its Motorola DROID devices with the said red eye on the front, but it seems that it decided to put it on more Android devices.

Among the DROID devices at Verizon, we can count two that come from HTC, namely the DRIOD Eris and DROID Incredible, but, as Pocketnow notes in a recent article, none of them comes with the popular 'logo' on it.

As for the Samsung LTE smartphone, it has been spotted under different names as well, including Stealth-V. The mobile phone sports model number SCH-i510.

The specifications list of this device should include a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, a fast 1GHz Hummingbird application processor inside, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with HD video recording capabilities, or 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera.

The mobile phone should also include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, aGPS, HDMI-out, the usual range of sensors, and, of course, 4G LTE compatibility, complemented by support for Verizon's CDMA network.

According to rumor, the new smartphone would be accompanied by another Samsung Android device, which should be nothing more than a Galaxy S II flavor designed specifically for Verizon's network.

Although the photo attached to this article shows that this Samsung handset might be added to the DROID family, no official confirmation emerged, so stay tuned to learn more on this when that happens.
