We already knew that HP Palm was working on the release of a Verizon version of their new Palm Pre 2 smartphone, but no official info on the exact release date for it was made available. However, the device already emerged in Best Buy's systems, which is a clear indicator of the fact that it should be released on shelves in the near future.

The announcement on this mobile phone is still something of the future, but fans can already rejoice, since Best Buy, and, undoubtedly, Verizon Wireless too, are getting ready for having the handset in stock.

The image that can be seen below is a scan from Best Buy's inventory system, which an anonymous tipster sent to the enthusiast blog PreCentral.

The fact that there are no Palm Pre 2 units in stock at Best Buy might not seem encouraging, but the shot does come as a confirmation that the CDMA version of the handset is near.

Moreover, we also learn from the shot that the Pre 2 might sport a price tag of $499 attached to it when made available for purchase, which means that it would certainly be priced well under $200 on contract.

The GSM flavor of the Palm Pre 2 is already available for purchase in the United States, via HP themselves, unlocked and free of contract.

The CDMA device should sport about the same specifications as the already available handset, with a 1GHz application processor inside, a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and the webOS 2.0 platform version to power it.

When compared to the previous model, the new Pre 2 would include about the same specs, such as the same amount of RAM, internal storage, or the sliding QWERTY keyboard.

Exact details on the launch date for this device lack at the moment, and the “coming months” release window HP announced about two months ago remains unchanged. Hopefully, they would make it available sooner rather than later.
