The lower spec’d handset is available for free on contract

Nokia’s first Windows Phone 8-based handsets have been available in the United States since last year, and some of them have already started to pick up pace, it seems, faster than others.

According to the latest data coming from AdDuplex, Verizon’s Lumia 822 smartphone appears to be outselling the Lumia 920 on AT&T’s network, despite packing lower hardware specs.

This comes a bit as a surprise, given the fact that Lumia 920 has been promoted more, with a great focus on its imaging capabilities.

However, it appears that Lumia 822’s presence on the network of the largest carrier in the US, which has no other Windows Phone 8 device available for its users, and the fact that it is being offered for free, helped sales of the mid-range device, WMPoweruser suggests.

Soon, Verizon’s customers might also have the chance to grab a flagship Lumia device, provided that previous rumors pan out.
