The handset will offer support for the carrier's LTE network

Before the end of the year, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless will make available for purchase a new mobile phone capable of connecting to its LTE network, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The wireless carrier is reportedly gearing up for the release of LG Spectrum, a dual-core Android smartphone packing a processor clocked in at 1.5GHz.

The smartphone is reportedly set to replace the LG Revolution handset that arrived at Verizon last year and which is now set to be discontinued.

The upcoming device is expected to deliver appealing features and capabilities, such as the aforementioned Snapdragon S3 SoC.

There will also be a 4.5-inch touchscreen display (a 1280 x 720 IPS screen), as well as an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the phone's back, with LED flash.

The handset will offer support for recording videos at 1080p. It also offers video calling capabilities, courtesy of a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front.

The mobile phone's specifications list also includes 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (a 16GB card will be included in the package from the start).

The handset is said to arrive with support for Verizon's LTE network, as well as with an 1830mAh battery inside. It will also sport Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, Mobile hotspot capabilities, and Swype keyboard.

The downside is that it will be launched with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, though it should get a taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich soon after.

The new LG Spectrum might arrive on shelves at Verizon on January 19th, leaked internal documents show.

Unfortunately, no details on the price tag this device would sport have emerged for the time being. Hopefully, more info on it will be unveiled next week during CES 2012, so keep an eye on this space to learn the news.
