Owners of an Apple iPad who enjoy wireless connectivity on Verizon Wireless' airwaves have now the possibility to download and install on their devices a new free application from the wireless carrier, namely the FiOS Mobile App.

The same as the versions released for other mobile devices on the wireless carrier's network, the software solution offers iPad users the possibility to manage DVRs or to browse FiOS video-on-demand (VOD) offers while on the go.

One other appealing feature that is available for iPad owners on Verizon's airwaves would be the possibility to use their devices as a remote control for their HD set-top boxes.

According to the mobile phone carrier, it started to enable users to use their devices as FiOS remote controls several months ago.

At the moment, Verizon customers can benefit from the application's features on a number of over 40 mobile devices which offer support for WiFi connectivity or which run under Google's Android OS 2.1 or higher.

Previously, the application was made available for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, and now it can be installed on the entire family of mobile devices from the Cupertino-based company.

Verizon Wireless started selling the Apple iPad only recently. The carrier offers a number of htree bundles for its customers, all of which include an iPad Wi-Fi model and a Verizon MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot.

The price tags for these bundles start at $629.99, for the iPad Wi-Fi 16GB plus MiFi, and go up to $729.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 32GB plus MiFi, and all the way to $829.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 64GB plus MiFi.

Verizon customers interested in the purchase of an iPad can benefit from up to 1GB of data per month, for a price tag of $20.

All three iPad Wi-Fi models are available at Big Red on a stand-alone basis as well. The MiFi 2200, a small device that can fit in one's pocket, creates a personal Wi-Fi cloud through which one can connect a number of up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the Verizon Wireless 3G Mobile Broadband network.

The Verizon FiOS Mobile App for Apple iPad is available for download from Softpedia too, via this link.

I personally would much rather watch TV with my $600 iPad instead of turning it into a giant remote. With my employee Sling adapter from DISH Network, I can steam live and recorded TV to my iPad wherever I have 3G coverage or WiFi. Plus, I can also use it with my android phone and laptop.
