Verizon Wireless, the largest wireless carrier in the United States has just announced its financial results for the second quarter of the ongoing year, and posted increases at all levels, but it appears that things might have been better, at least when it comes to sales of the Apple iPhone, which landed at Big Red only in February this year.

In addition to announcing the increase in revenues and customers for the Q2 2011, Verizon also announced that its current CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, had stepped down. The position will go to Lowell McAdam, who is currently Verizon COO.

During a TV show where he discussed the company's financial results, Lowell McAdam said that the next flavor of iPhone might arrive at the wireless carrier sometime in fall.

He explained that the slow revenue growth the company experienced in the time frame is part the result of this.

“We had assumed that we would see an iPhone early in the summertime as it’s been usually, and that’s going to be a little bit later in the year now,” said McAdam.

Basically, this means that the wireless carrier expects for an impressive boost in revenues for the next quarter, courtesy of the launch of a new Apple iPhone model.

What should be noted is that the future CEO's sayings were not a slip, since he re-stated the same later during the conference call.

“We are probably what I would view as maybe a quarter behind what we had talked about in January, primarily because we expected an iPhone 5 refresh sometime this summer,” he stated.

“We don’t know when the next one is going to come out. You will have to ask Apple that, but we expect that probably sometime in the fall, and I think you will see a significant jump there when we get to that point.”

Some of the latest rumors on the matter suggested that Verizon has already started to get ready for the launch of the next iPhone model, with various discounts put in place for accessories for the current iPhone 4.

While waiting for additional info on the matter, you can have a look at the said TV show below, to hear McAdam talking about the upcoming iPhone.
