Verizon Wireless has quietly launched Dashboard, a portal using Adobe's Flash technology, that's graphically rich and delivers personalized multimedia information and entertainment services to the users’ phone. At the moment, only owners of an LG Chocolate 3 phone have access to the Dashboard application, though Verizon expects that it will become widely available on the new phones expected to arrive on the market.

Verizon's Todd Murphy, director of digital media programming, has revealed that the new platform will stand alongside the Get It Now platform. Furthermore, it is designed to be the place where users can easily find content from Verizon's deck but, at the same time, links that take them to the mobile Web.

More details about Dashboard can be found on Verizon's official page. According to the website, “Dashboard creates an ecosystem for consuming, promoting and merchandising VZW's multimedia content and services. Dashboard was built on Adobe's Flash Cast platform and leverages their leadership in providing best-in-class content authoring tools (i.e. Flash) and user interface design. Dashboard is a platform designed to drive additional data for Verizon and our partners by improving the customer experience and content discoverability.”

Through Dashboard's Channels, users can easily access Verizon's Wireless services, like Mobile Web, GetItNow Applications, GIN Search, V Cast Video and V Cast Music. The platform will also give users direct access to Games, Ringtones and Ringback Tones, Songs, Applications, Wallpapers, Mobile Web Sites, VZ Navigator, ESPN MVP, Pix Place and email.

“Each channel will be able to render Flash content, launch an application, or invoke other media handlers on the device to process the selected content. As such, the Dashboard application will be capable of launching a BREW-based WAP 2.0 browser (Access), VZW Tones application, Mobile Shop, video catalog/player, music catalog/player, BREW based search application, on the handset in response to a user request from within a content channel. This will allow VZW to create a simple and unified experience across a range of consumer data services.” reads an overview of the newly-launched application.
