This collaboration between the two leading companies, Verizon in the mobile network business and Namco in the game developing and publishing segment, is bringing probably the most popular fighting game for more than a decade now, to your mobiles – for now, only in the States.

The game in question is the highly successful mobile version of the arcade and console game series Tekken, called Tekken 2. Since gamers have been sticking with this series for almost 15 years now, the decision to create a version specially designed for mobiles is most certainly a good idea, with the high rate of success being probably guaranteed. Come to think of it, we can't think of a reason for this version not being launched, since it seems like the natural course in this game's existence.

In this Tekken version, gamers must master 10 hit combos, and highly spectacular and efficient moves, as well as devastating counterattacks, in order to be able to take on the seven classic arcade characters the game has as your opponents. The game also offers you plenty of rewards as you advance, thus bringing variety, and more and more reasons to keep playing. In other words, you can choose one of three characters at first and fight in a best out of three game – if you win, more characters will be available.

The characters are mostly those youe known from the console versions, with each featuring its own particular crushing moves, as well as highly difficult combos and impressive furious moves. Also, as expected, each character has its own personal style, which is just another reason why this game continues to be of interest, for they don't all fight the same way, and are all controlled differently.

In order to make sure you are properly initiated, the game provides a Beginner Mode and a Survival Mode, where it's easier for you to learn the moves and improve your skills. The 3D graphics capabilities are great and turn this into an even more pleasurable gaming experience, while you're trying to become the King of the Iron Fist, which is the game's goal.

Ed Ruth, director of digital media at Verizon stated the following regarding the new game release: “We’re excited to be the first in the United States to bring this popular game to our customers. [...] By bringing Namco’s ‘TEKKEN 2’ to Verizon Wireless customers, we’re giving gamers a chance to experience the thrills and excitement of this game wherever they are using the Verizon Wireless network.”

Also, to make sure you're really interested, Verizon is giving you the chance to win the Tekken 5 arcade game if you download the game until March 2, 2009. In a nutshell, besides getting the chance to really eliminate all “negative energies,” if that's not enough, you can do the same thing to an even greater extent on the Tekken 5 arcade version, should you win.

“TEKKEN is one of the most popular and well-known fighting games available, and its mobile debut is as exciting for amateur fighters as it is for series veterans[...]In addition to giving consumers the ability to play anytime and anywhere on their Verizon Wireless phones, the optimized controls and the one-button special attacks make it easy for anyone to fight like a pro.” Scott Rubin, Senior Vice President of sales and marketing for Namco, stated.
