Verizon Wireless announced the release of a Music Manager, a PC-based music player specially conceived to be used as a companion to Verizon's V CAST Music service. The application simplifies how V Cast Music users manage, play and purchase music, as well as the synchronization of compatible music to V CAST Music-enabled handsets.

The Music Manager software allows users to manage their music library via an easy-to-use interface consisting of four tabs: "V CAST Buy Music" is a direct link to the V CAST Music Store; "Music on My PC" lists all the music in the Music Manager library that resides on the customer's PC; "Music on My Phone" displays the files on the customer's phone (and memory card) when connected to the PC; and "Music on My CD" lists music from any audio CD that is inserted in the PC allowing the customer to select which audio files they would like to play or rip.

In addition to the intuitive user interface, the Music Manager includes an array of useful features that allow users to: import unprotected .aac files; automatically convert unprotected .aac files to .wma files during synchronization; rip CDs into MP3 or WMA format; burn audio CDs from the PC music library; import playlists from Windows Media Player; sort music by songs or albums; manage duplicate song files; print "Show Me How" screens. The application also simplifies music synchronization between the mobile phone and the PC, as the phone automatically enters a synchronization state when it is connected to the PC and the Music Manager is running.

The Music Manager application was developed with the support of Smith Micro Software and is compatible with Windows XP and Vista operating systems and all V CAST Music-enabled phones (except the Verizon Wireless CDM 8945 which is only compatible with Windows XP). By the end of July, users of the previous version of V CAST Music software will automatically receive a notification from Verizon Wireless to upgrade to the new, improved version. For those who don't want to wait until then, the Music Manager can be downloaded here.
