Don't hope for another major software update

Verizon's Elipsis 7 is not a particularly good tablet, but it's definitely among the cheapest slates that support LTE data speeds. Since smartphone and tablet users are now looking for faster ways to get Lollipop on their devices, a KitKat update will probably go unnoticed.

However, many people keep their smartphones and tablets for more than two years, even if they are obsolete specs- and software-wise.

The Elipsis 7 has been released in November 2013 at Verizon, and since then it has not received any major updates. It took the Big Red more than a year to offer an already old update for the Elipsis 7.

Still, any updates are more than welcome, so Elipsis 7 owners should be happy that Verizon is now making the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade available for their tablets.

There are many changes included in this update and lots of bug fixes supposed to address some of the issues with the 4G LTE connectivity lots of users complained about in the past.

First and foremost, the tablet received Chromecast support and Wireless Printing, so users can print photos and documents from the Elipsis 7, as well as connect to any printer via Google Cloud Print.

Emoji, 4G LTE connectivity fixes and updates for Verizon apps

Along with the update, Emoji arrive on the Elipsis 7 via Google keyboard, together with Android Device Manager, location in Quick Settings and location modes and monitoring, as well as Chrome web view.

Last but not least, here are the following issues resolved by the update:

- 4G LTE connectivity when coming out of airplane mode; - 4G LTE connectivity with an encrypted tablet after power cycle is complete; - ‘Sync up all’ option has been removed from Exchange email to prevent system shut down; - Device now downloads and saves large files without Wi-Fi connection; - Security warning message is presented when creating a Mobile Hotspot session with an open security type; - Buying data is now easier through the Portal Ellipsis 7 from Setup Wizard; - After using My Verizon Mobile, some applications may use a cellular connection even if the device is connected to Wi-Fi.

Keep in mind that the update is delivered OTA (over the air), so you just need to sit and wait until it you get notified on the update file.
