Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless already announced plans to deploy a 4G network based on the Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard in the United States, and now we learn that it will unveil more details on the matter at the CTIA Wireless 2010 convention in Las Vegas. The operator says that it is on track with the LTE roll-out plans, and that its partners (equipment vendors, backhaul providers and device design experts) are also preparing for the upcoming launch.

The company is set to put in place the largest LTE network in the United States, and will launch it commercially later during the ongoing year. As most of you might know, it already announced that the network could deliver peak download speeds of 40 to 50 megabits per second (Mbps), along with peak upload speeds of 20 to 25 Mbps, and now it says that the average speeds available on the 4G network should range from 5 to 12 Mbps on the downlink, and from 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

“The CTIA WIRELESS convention is the perfect setting to focus on the important behind-the-scenes work we are doing with more than 25 partners to bring 4G LTE to life. Our progress is good, and we’re confident that the next generation of wireless network technology will deliver the speed, reliability and bandwidth that businesses, government and consumers have been anticipating. Our work on 4G LTE underscores our continuing commitment to provide the best wireless experience available today. Building and operating great wireless networks is what we do, and everything we do at Verizon Wireless – from devices to applications to solutions – stems from that foundation of network know-how,” Lowell McAdam, president and chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless, stated.

The carrier also notes that it is working with a wide range of partners for the building of an LTE ecosystem, and that the LTE Innovation Center, Open Development and the Verizon Developer Community are meant to support these LTE advancements. The company plans on showcasing new products ready for the upcoming network, as well as products meant for its current 3G network at CTIA Wireless. Not to mention that it also unveiled the launch of Skype mobile on Verizon Wireless, which would offer Skype users around the world the possibility to easily stay in touch with their friends on the carrier's airwaves.
