Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless launched not too long ago its first mobile phone powered by Google's Android operating system, the Motorola DROID, a device that already became very popular all around the world. The phone comes with a large display and with great connectivity options, not to mention some services that are not available with other Android phones, courtesy of the 2.0 version of the platform it runs under, thus attracting end users towards it, yet it seems the operator feels that small businesses could also make good use of the handset.

Its high-speed Web browsing; voice-activated search; brilliant, large touch screen; plus access to thousands of applications on the nation’s largest and most reliable wireless 3G network combine to make the DROID a sophisticated tool for small business customers in any industry,” the carrier states.

Indeed, the Motorola DROID comes to the market with a great deal of very attractive features, including the possibility to access the calendar, meetings, info and more, can deliver a great web browsing experience, offers appealing connectivity and communication means with integrated Gmail and Exchange e-mail push, and also sports an Android notification panel. At the same time, the DROID also supports Visual Voice Mail and comes with a built-in GPS receives, enabling users to enjoy Google Maps navigation with spoken turn-by-turn directions. All with a handset that costs $199.99 with a two-year agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate.

Another important feature of the device is the access users have to the Android Market, where a great deal of applications are available for small business customers, as Verizon notes:

Most business users are going to want the device to have really good PIM software, and Agendus still is not available. I think that will be a major break thru.
