With all the troubles that Nexus users who upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop have been confronted with in the last couple of weeks since the new OS has been released, one may think that Google will be talking some time to fix these issues and then resume the rollout of the update.

All three Nexus smartphones and both Nexus 7 and 9 tablets have been hit by various bugs that sometime make these devices unusable. Most of the issues that appear on the Nexus 4, 5 and 6 seem to affect the Moto X (2014) Pure Edition as well.

Nevertheless, US-based carrier Verizon has just announced the Android 5.0 Lollipop is now rolling out to Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen) devices purchased through its official channels.

The update is delivered OTA (over the air) in stages, so it might take a while until it reaches all units. Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen) owners should keep in mind that the update is about 678MB in size, so it's better to download it via Wi-Fi network.

Last week Motorola announced a soak test for Android 5.0 Lollipop for Verizon's Moto X (2nd Gen), which seems to have been completely successful this week.

If you haven't been notified on the update yet, you can manually check for it by heading to Settings / About phone / Software update. However, that won't entitle you to a quick download unless Verizon has decided to push it to your phone but the notification hasn't arrived yet.

The Lollipop update contains some Moto specific improvements as well

You may have already read and seen some of the changes included in this major update, but Verizon has also published the official changelog of Android 5.0 Lollipop for Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen).

The first thing you will notice is the improved design called Material Design, which offers complex views and smoother animations.

Furthermore, some tweaks have been implemented as well, which are supposed to allow for better visibility, such as new “schedule” view with added Navigation in Calendar, as well as the option to create new events with Promoted Action.

The Notifications department has been enhanced as well, so you will notice that they are now more visible and accessible. Important notifications now appear on lock screen, ranked by type and sender, so you will be able to double tap to open, swipe left or right to clear, or simply choose clear all.

Lots of Moto specific actions have been added and old ones have been improved, such as the option to view notifications while the phone's display is off.
