The handset becomes available tomorrow

Tomorrow is a big day for Android phone fans and for Verizon Wireless customers, as the wireless carrier and the leading handset vendor Motorola are getting ready to launch a new device, the DROID X by Motorola. The phone was announced several weeks ago, and should arrive both as a new addition to the operator's DROID family of Android devices, and as the successor of the highly-popular DROID by Motorola.

Some of the latest reports around the Internet pointed towards concerns that Big Red might not be able to meet demand for the DROID X, something suggested by the issues it has with the DROID Incredible by HTC, and by the fact that the new Motorola phones was not made available for pre-ordering. The shipping of DROID Incredible units was pushed back ever since launch, and chances are that DROID X, which is equally appealing, would have the same fate.

However, it seems that one should not worry, at least this is what the carrier says. According to Verizon, it managed to secure enough DROID X units to meet demand for the device. “At present, we feel that we have done everything possible to ensure we have inventory to meet customer needs around the Droid X – the proof will be in the execution on July 15,” is what Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Brenda Raney sated on the matter, Cnet reports.

The issues with DROID Incredible delays were said to be driven by some shortages in the supply chain, combined with an increased popularity of the device. Since these issues widened, the wireless carrier decided to offer users the possibility switch their orders to other handsets on its offering. However, DROID X comes from another handset vendor, Motorola, which did not experience issues with meeting demand for the highly-popular DROID by Motorola, and which might be able to ship DROID X units in due time as well.
