The update is deployed OTA (over the air) in waves

As expected, Verizon is now rolling out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Samsung DROID Charge smartphone.

The carrier published the update’s change log last week and confirmed it would be deployed on November 29. Besides bringing the firmware’s version to Gingerbread, the update adds several new features and improves the phone’s performance.

According to the folks over at Phandroid, the update is rolled out OTA (over the air) and in waves, so some DROID Charge owners may not receive it right away.

However, those with unrooted DROID Charge units can manually search for Android 2.3 Gingerbread in case they haven’t been notified on the availability of the update.

It is recommended to wait a few hours before flashing the new update. Usually, the first users who upgrade their phones report on the quality of the update.
