They should start arriving on May 23, but the info has yet to be officially confirmed

Good news for Verizon customers who own the very popular Samsung Galaxy S4 or Note 3 smartphones, as the carrier plans to release the latest version of Android for these models in about a month from now.

The information comes via Rootzwiki, citing a reliable source who claims that the Big Red will start seeding Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy Note II and Note 3 on May 23.

Beginning May 28, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini owners should start receiving the same upgrade via OTA (over the air) deployment.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling how reliable the information is, but Galaxy S4 owners should rest assured that they will eventually get the long-awaited Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for their devices.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that Verizon is the last carrier in the United States to offer a major update to one of the most popular Android smartphones available on the market (Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3).

The Big Red seems to like to test these updates thoroughly before releasing them to the general public, in order to avoid sending users broken builds.

This is a double edge sword, as many of Verizon’s customers switch carriers just because they don’t receive these major updates on time, but there have been lots of cases where operators like AT&T and T-Mobile had to halt the rollout of various updates due to bugs.

So, it looks like Verizon is playing the “better safe than sorry” card with its customers. Now, those who own one of the four smartphones that we have mentioned earlier should take this information with a grain of salt until the carrier makes an official statement.

There’s no telling how long it will take the carrier to test the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for these four Samsung smartphones, so claiming that the rollout has already been set for May 23 and 28 may not mean anything if something wrong happens during these tests.

Usually, Verizon publishes the official changelog of each update for the smartphones in its portfolio a few days before actually releasing it. We will keep an eye out for any of these, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.

Here is hoping that Verizon will be able to push the highly anticipated Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade for Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 3 sooner rather than later.
