A new Android-based mobile phone available for purchase in the United States on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless was updated to a new platform version, namely the LG Ally, which is now running under the Android 2.2 operating system version.

According to Verizon, the new software update should offer a series of other enhancements too, along with the newer Froyo OS flavor.

“Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update, LG VS740ZVD, for your LG Ally. This update includes numerous enhancements and improvements, including an update to Android 2.2 OS (Froyo),” the release notes for this update read.

As for the rest of the improvements that Verizon and LG packed with the update, they range from a series of security enhancements, to better browser performance levels, or access to more services.

Here's what Verizon notes on these OS enhancements:

- Improved security options include remote device wipe, device lock, password complexity, and a minimum password length. - Long press of physical home key allows easy switching between the last eight applications used. - Bluetooth voice dialing displays your verbal instructions and repeats them back to ensure accuracy. - Enhanced browser performance for faster loading of Java Script pages. - Enhanced screen rotation (270 degrees) for app compatibility (e.g. browser, messaging, maps and more). - Updated contact directory, which combines corporate and Google accounts. - Access the latest Amazon, Amazon MP3, Facebook, and Thinkfree Office applications. - Instant data re-connection after a long voice call. - LG Social Application (previously Socialite).

Since the software comes with a series of fixes and improvements to LG's custom apps and widgets too, users should consider performing the update process as soon as possible. Before launching the process, it would be a great idea to backup all data on the phone, just to make sure that no important files are lost.

Those LG Ally owners who would like to learn some more info on how to update their devices to the new Android 2.2 Froyo platform version should head over to Verizon's website here.
