Motorola promised several months ago that it would deploy an Ice Cream Sandwich update for its flagship Android smartphone, the DROID RAZR, in Q1 2012.

Unfortunately, the company delayed the launch of the update for Q2. Several months have passed since Google released Android 4.0 mobile platform on the market and we still don’t know exactly when Motorola delivers the promised update.

According to the latest hearsay, we’re looking to a Q2/Q3 timeframe for the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for DROID RAZR, though the only evidence we have is Motorola’s official support site which is extremely vague on this matter.

While everyone is expecting Motorola and Verizon to announce the availability of the Android 4.0 for DROID RAZR, the carrier is preparing for the rollout of a maintenance update.

Software version 6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US. will soon be pushed OTA (over the air) to all Motorola DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX devices.

Verizon already published the official changelogs of the updates, which are similar and bring the following improvements:

- Improved device stability; - Optimized device performance to extend battery life; - Added easy access to preloaded VZW bookmarks through quick key access; - Corrected loud call end and connect tones over Bluetooth; - Enhanced device security preventing unauthorized access of telephony database by third parties; - Device is now updated with IPv6.

In addition, the update adds a few network connectivity and email enhancements, as well as some bug fixes:

- 4G coverage indicator accurately displays data connectivity; - Improved Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity when utilizing WPS security; - Improved text message delivery.

Some MotoCast improvements have been added as well, such as:

- Included a new MotoCast widget to enable easier access and discoverability of MotoCast services; - Modified the storage settings screen to make it easier to understand total storage versus available storage; - Implemented a number of MotoCast performance improvements.

Las but not least, the upcoming update enhances security in Verizon Apps and improves Visual Voice Mail performance with data disabled, as well as visual voicemail notification delivery.

For the time being, the update is on “Coming Soon” at Verizon Wireless, but the carrier is likely to start the rollout processes within the next few days.
