Tour 9630 update 5.0.0.732 now available

On Monday, wireless carrier Verizon has made available for download a new software update for the BlackBerry Tour smartphone. According to the wireless services provider, the new software update, delivered as the BlackBerry 5.0.0 Release 1242 update, comes with a nice range of enhancements and improvements for the mobile phone's users.

“Enjoy improved performance with these OS enhancements. Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update for your BlackBerry Tour smartphone. The BlackBerry 5.0.0 Release 1242 (Platform 4.2.0.334/Applications 5.0.0.732) update includes numerous enhancements and improvements,” is what the carrier has to say about the solution.

Among the enhancements that the new software update comes with, we can count some related to the switching from a CDMA to GSM network, along with others aimed at the phone's Push to Talk features, including improved audio when accepting a Push to Talk call from a mobile contact. Moreover, the earpiece volume is no longer affected by having the speaker volume on silent, the trackball is no longer affected by the feature, nor is the Push to Talk functionality disabled when the device software is updated.

Other enhancements include: - Setting a contact alert in the sound profiles application now only requires one click to save. - Open voice-mail messages from the text message application with no issues. - GlobalAccess Connect support. For international Internet access, you can tether your smartphone to a notebook. - Song progress bars now scroll more smoothly. At the same time, Verizon notes that the phone will connect more easily to GSM/UMTS networks and that users should enjoy improved Push to Talk answering capabilities, along with faster response from Push to Talk alert tone. Text message display when using the Japanese language was also improved, as well as the VZ Navigator “Say it” menu, data service reception, and the video-message audio and video playback functionality.
