Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is gearing up for a new announcement on May 22, and might unveil to the world a new device running under Google’s Android operating system.

The company has already sent out invites to the event, promising a special announcement, saying that its COO Marni Walden would be present there.

No specific info on what might be announced on that day has emerged so far, but reports suggest that Verizon might be finally ready to take the wraps off the long rumored successor for the DROID DNA.

However, there is also a chance that the event might have something to do with the company’s LTE network, and that a device that would offer VoLTE capabilities could be unveiled, droid-life notes. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
