Whack a mole or fling a ferret

Verizon Wireless announced today that its subscribers will be able to enjoy a new collection of Flash-based games gathered under the name of "Qwickies". These are actually mini-games offered in collaboration with Nickelodeon Kids and AddictingGames, a leading online game provider.

From now on, Verizon's users will be able to play, directly from their handsets, titles like "Flip the Bird", "Fling the Ferret", "Escape the Locker", "Whack a Mole", "Fly Squasher", "50 States", "Jungle Gym" and so on. Quite a serious collection of games, isn't it? Not that games are supposed to be serious, but these Qwickies have really funny tittles.

The new mini-games come with high-score features, allowing players to upload their highest scores to a public online board, so that everyone can see how skilled they are in the arts of whacking moles or escaping lockers.

Dave Williams, senior vice president of Shockwave and AddictingGames, declared about the new deal with Verizon: "We are excited about expanding our relationship with Verizon Wireless to continue delivering the great content available on AddictingGames to millions of mobile customers. With more than 75 percent of our audience gaming online, Qwikies are a terrific extension of AddictingGames, broadening our reach across multiple platforms and delivering fun and innovative content to our audience wherever they are."

"Our customers have demonstrated an appetite for games that can be played quickly while on-the-go, and they love games based on popular content", added Ryan Hughes, vice president of digital media programming for Verizon. "Qwikies from Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group's AddictingGames are a great fit with the type of content our customers crave."

In order to be able to play the new games, Verizon's subscribers must visit the Get It Now virtual store and look for the AddictingGames section. The V carrier says players will have to give away "$4.99 for two uses, $6.99 for four uses and $8.99 for six uses", but we're not sure what this means exactly. I guess those in the mood for whacking moles will have to find out for themselves.
