Verizon Wireless has just announced it has updated its Verizon Messages application with new features and capabilities. Starting this week, users who download Verizon Messages 2.0 will be able to sync text, pictures and video messages between Android phones and tablets.

However, the new syncing feature requires users to have both devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network, so that they can send, receive and create SMS and MMS from their tablets and have them synced to their smartphones in real time.

With the new Verizon Messages 2.0 users can sync up to four smartpones to a single tablet, and they read and reply to all messages received from these smartphones directly from the tablet. Obviously, the application needs to be installed on all Android devices.

Simply check the tabs for each smartphone paired with the tablet to see if it's connected or not. Connected device feature a green circle, while those that are not yet connected have a red circle.

In case the tablet is not on the same Wi-Fi network as the smartphone(s), users will receive the following notification:

This tablet is not currently connected to you primary smartphone. You can choose to send this message when connection is established or you may cancel this message.”

The messages can be saved as pending for later sending, or, in case the user changes his mind, he can delete the pending message.

It is also worth mentioning that the latest version of Verizon Messages fixes several Force Close issues that were reported from previous iterations of the application.

Although Verizon Messages 2.0 is fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 and up, Verizon mentions that Motorola RAZR and Samsung Galaxy Nexus (or Nexus Prime) are not supported yet.

The application is now available as a free download from Android Market.
