Samsung and Verizon have just announced the online availability of the Samsung Convoy 2 rugged flip phone, which is aimed at 'adventurous customers'.

As the carrier states the handset cannot be purchased from Verizon Wireless Communications stores, but promises that Samsung Convoy 2 will be available in stores in the coming weeks.

Samsung Convoy 2 can be purchased online for $79.99 after a $50 mail in rebate with a new two-year agreement.

According to Verizon, Samsung Convoy 2 owners will be able to try the Mobile Email app for 10 uses at no additional charge.

In addition, they will be given the option to subscribe to Mobile Email for $5 monthly access after the tenth use.

The Convoy 2 meets military specifications 810F standards for shock, low pressure (altitude), low and high temperature, temperature shock, solar radiation, salt fog, humidity, vibration, sand and dust.

The phone is PTT–capable (Push to Talk) for fast two-way communication and comes with copy and paste feature for text entry.

The clamshell retains the same decent design as the original Convoy, but offers improved and update features.

It comes pre-loaded with several interesting applications, including Verizon's Mobile Email, and offers full integration with Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.

Users will be able to search contents in calendar, contacts, recent calls, messages, menu and multimedia with the phone search feature.

Furthermore, the Convoy 2 is VZ Navigator capable, allowing users to receive audible turn-by-turn directions to millions of points of interest and share the directions with others.

The feature-phone comes with Stereo speakers, dual microphones with noise cancellation technology, as well as microSD card for memory expansion (up to 32GB) and 3.2-megapixel camera with flash.

It is also V CAST Video capable and supports Bluetooth version 2.1 for headset (mono and stereo), hands-free, object push (vCard and iCalendar only), basic printing and phonebook access.

UPDATE: The phone is now available for free along with other models at Verizon Wireless.
