Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just announced the release of a new business tool for its customers, the Mobile Unified Communications Client (Mobile UC), which was designed to offer enterprises increased efficiency when it comes to managing employees’ mobile connectivity.

The new Mobile UC Client is available on Android handsets that connect to the carrier's network, and takes advantage of existing enterprise telephone systems for supporting the mobility of employees while also ensuring increased corporate security.

With the Mobile UC Client, the personal mobile number of an employee, as well as the business landline number, are both accessible from the smartphone.

Through the new tool, mobile employees are capable of placing calls or answering to incoming calls even when they are not in the office.

“Calls initiated from the mobile phone’s business identity are routed through the existing corporate IP PBX system and display the employee’s business number to callers,” the wireless carrier explains.

Mobile calls can be routed through the existing IP PBX system, which will result in maximized Least Cost Routing and should offer increased savings when it comes to international and intra-company calls.

With the new Mobile UC Client, employees are offered the possibility to access voicemail and other features, including call hold, transfer and conference capabilities, all straight from the smartphone in their hands.

“The Mobile Unified Communications Client from Verizon Wireless revolutionizes the concept of the office phone,” said Bill Versen, director, Advanced Mobile Communications, Verizon Wireless.

“Convenience is key, especially when a professional spends time both in their traditional office as well as going on the road. The Verizon Wireless Mobile Unified Communications Client makes it a seamless, easy-to-use experience that satisfies the customer needs for simplification and lower cost solutions.

“In addition to being backed by the nation’s most reliable network, the whole package is easy to deploy and to manage, so enterprises can reap the benefits of fixed mobile convergence without the need for additional hardware or sacrificing information security.”

Verizon Wireless also notes that the Mobile UC Client goes along with the enterprise-class Mobile UC Docking Station that enables Android smartphones to connect to an enterprise network.

Mobile UC Client offers support for Motorola DROID X, DROID X2, DROID 2, DROID 2 GLOBAL and DROID PRO at the moment, but more devices will be included in the list soon.

The new Mobile UC Client comes with a $7 (around 5 Euros) monthly fee per user. The docking station can be purchased for a price of $125 (about 92 Euros) per station.
