Preps a flood of low- and mid-range mobile phones

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has recently taken another step in making Research In Motions's BlackBerry Storm 9530 seem more appealing to its subscribers. To be more precise, the company has recently dropped the price for the touchscreen BlackBerry to only $99.99 for those who would go for a 2-year service agreement.

The price doesn't sound too bad in the end, yet it seems that the recent launch of the BlackBerry Tour 9630 on the carrier's airwaves, available for $199.99 on a 2-year deal, has influenced the operator's decision. At the same time, this might also be a clear indicator that the second BlackBerry to include touch capabilities, namely the Storm 2, is getting ready to become available with Big Red, which means that the older device should disappear from inventories.

While the price drop is a fact and the purpose of the move only a supposition, an interesting rumor about the wireless carrier also surfaced into the wild, pointing towards the fact that a wide range of low-entry and mid-level handsets are getting ready to become available on the carrier's offering. According to phone Arena, there are about 15 handsets waiting for the green light.

The first in line would be the LG Chocolate Touch VX8575, a full touchscreen device that might be none other than the recently unveiled BL40, followed by the Nokia Shade 2705 (a replacement for the Mirage 2605), Nokia Twist 7705 (possibly the swivel-style phone that surfaced earlier this year), Palm Treo 800W, Motorola Entice (or Harmony) W766, Samsung Rogue U960 (should land next month), Samsung U450, Samsung Strut U440 (QWERTY), and Samsung Omnia-II i920, which should become available for purchase before Christmas.

There are also some PTT handsets that could land with the carrier, including Motorola V860, Samsung Convoy U640, Casio Rock C731 and Casio Brigade C741. For what it's worth, the upcoming phones should be rather nice additions to the operator's lineup, in case everything pans out and given the fact that the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 will come along with them. Stay tuned to learn more on this.
