Officially, LG Ally has become the latest Android-based mobile phone to arrive on Verizon Wireless' airwaves. Just as previously rumored, the mobile phone is expected to become available for purchase on May 20, while being put on a pre-order status on May 13. The price tag for LG Ally has been set at $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and after the signing of a new two-year customer agreement with the carrier.

According to the mobile phone carrier, the new handset comes to the market with a futuristic, stylish design, while sporting 3G connectivity options, being able to offer users an enhanced web browsing experience. The phone boasts a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, along with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard with touch capabilities.

The specifications list of the new Android-based mobile phone includes a 3.2-megapixel auto focus camera and camcorder with flash, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1 capabilities, built-in MP3 and WMA music player, one-touch speaker phone and speaker-independent voice commands, ergonomic silver-and-black outer case, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 16GB of additional storage space.

Other features of the device include: - Five customizable home screens with shortcuts to text messages, e-mail, apps, favorite social networking sites and widgets - Access to up to 38,000 apps from around the world in Android Market - Luminous sensor designed to adjust LCD backlight brightness depending on light conditions - Proximity sensor instantly locks touch screen buttons while talking on the phone - S-GPS support for enhanced location accuracy in addition to turn-by-turn directions from Google Maps - Access to updates on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, etc. - 3D App launcher and Live Wallpaper.

The wireless operator also announced that those interested in the new LG Ally would have to sign up for a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk Plan and an Email and Web for Smartphone plan. Nationwide Talk plans start at $39.99, while Email and Web for Smartphone plans begin at $29.99. The phone will be put on sale via all Verizon channels, including the carrier's website and Verizon Wireless Communications Stores.
